While Arizona’s on field product has been less-than-perfect in Year 1 under Brent Brennan, that hasn’t stopped the Wildcats from putting together solid 2025 recruiting class. On Friday, 2025 three-star linebacker Carter Jones announced via social media that he has flipped his commitment from Cal to Arizona.

Jones announced on Wednesday that he was backing off his commitment to Cal. Prior to that, he had been committed to the Golden Bears since December of 2023. The three-star linebacker held a total of 17 offers, including Boston College, Florida State, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and more.

The 6-foot-0, 205-pound linebacker currently plays for Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, California. During his senior season, Jones has tallied 72 total tackles (42 solo, 30 assists), along with one TFL and five QB hurries, per Max Preps. He also hauled in six catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns. 247Sports Composite Ratings list Jones as the No. 145 prospect from California, 157th-best linebacker, and No. 1741 overall prospect in the class of 2025.

With Jones’ commitment, Arizona now has the No. 41 ranked recruiting class, and sixth-best recruiting class in the Big 12, in 2025.

With his commitment flipped from Cal, Carter Jones becomes the 20th commit in the Arizona 2025 recruiting class. He is the first linebacker in the recruiting class for Danny Gonzales and Duane Akina. Jones is also the fourth flipped commit in Arizona’s 2025 recruiting class, joining cornerbacks Dajon Hinton (ASU) and Swayde Griffin (Texas Tech), as well as quarterback Robert McDaniel, who also switched from Cal.
