Arizona took the field for what it hoped would be the first time in Arizona Stadium during the 2025 fall camp on Friday, but the weather had other plans. Less than 15 minutes before the start of practice, the team found itself moving to the Jeannie and Cole Davis Sports Center due to lightning strikes in the area. Even with the disruptions, the Wildcats were able to quickly move operations from one location to another and get right back into their flow.
The 16-period practice consisted of a combination of position group drills, five on five periods, special teams work, and more. During position drills, the tight end room was on full display, with coach Josh Miller breaking down fundamentals to a minute level of detail, and Tyler Powell and Keyan Burnett demonstrating their size and strength.
Check out our full recap and notes from Day 3 of Fall Camp below:
Offense:
- The First Team offense included Texas Tech transfer Ty Buchanan, junior Michael Wooten, Hawaii transfer Ka’ena Decambra, Alexander Doost, and former Michigan Wolverine Tristan Bounds. Tyler Powell and Keyan Burnett split reps with the ones at tight end, while Devin Hyatt saw some action at wide receiver.
- The offensive line second unit was comprised of freshman Louis Akpa, Albany transfer Chance Roberts, Grayson Stovall, Portland State transfer Isaac Perez, and redshirt freshman Matthew Lado.
- Wide receiver Rex Haynes hauled in an impressive 30-yard touchdown reception over West Virginia transfer Ayden Garnes.
- Noah Fifita found wide receiver Javin “Nunu” Whatley for a wide open 35-yard touchdown during a 7-on-7 period.
Defense:
- The starting unit on defense featured Genesis Smith, Dalton Johnson, Marquis Groves-Killebrew, Texas transfer Jay’Vion Cole, and redshirt sophomore Gavin Hunter in the secondary. Tia Savea, Deshawn McKnight, Dominic Lolesio, and Tre Smith took reps on the defensive line, and Julian Savaiinaea also saw some action with the ones. Linebackers included a mix of Taye Brown, Max Harris, and Chase Kennedy.
- Locating the ball and fumble recovery drills were on full display, including a fumble recovery by former Montana linebacker Riley Wilson during a 7-on-7 period.
Special Teams:
- Kickers Michael Salgado-Medina and freshman Tyler Prasuhn went head to head kicking field goals during a special teams period. Salgado-Medina connected on all four tries, while Prasuhn went 3 of 4, missing a 30-yard attempt.
- Australian punter Isaac Lovison sent five punts into the ceiling of the Davis Sports Center, before finishing the period with a booming punt that sailed 50+ yards. It’s very possible he could start at punter for the Wildcats, with Salgado-Medina at place kicker.
- Wide receivers Javin “Nunu” Whatley, Kris Hutson, Jeremiah Patterson, and Luke Wysong exchanged reps fielding and returning punts.
