If there was any doubt, the narrative that Tommy Lloyd can’t recruit top talent in the US is officially over. On Wednesday, 2025 five-star wing Joson Sanon from the Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, VT committed to the Arizona Wildcats. He also intendeds to graduate high school earlier and will reclassify to the class of 2024. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony first reported the news.

The 6’5, 188-pound wing chose the UA over Boston College, UConn, Kansas, Kentucky, and Overtime Elite. He named Arizona in his top 10 schools back in February, and top six schools earlier in March. Sanon is the No. 1 player from Vermont, No. 2 small forward, and No. 11 overall prospect in 2025 247Sports Composite Ratings.

Following his commitment, Sanon told ESPN that Arizona’s high octane offense was ultimately what tipped the scales for him. “I love the fit, the way they score, how they get you open. They play at a fast pace, and being in the center of a high-powered offense was attractive”, said Sanon on Wednesday. “I wanted to get locked in before things really get going with the transfer portal.”

Arizona’s fast paced play isn’t the only reason Sanon will play for Tommy Lloyd and the Wildcats though. His parents emigrated from Haiti in the 1990s before settling in Massachusetts. Sanon said he hopes to be the second Haitian player in the NBA, behind former All-American, Pac-12 Player of the Year, and Arizona standout Bennedict Mathurin.

He joins Arizona’s loaded 2024 recruiting class, featuring five-star power forward Carter Bryant, four-star guard Jamari Phillips, and four-star center Emmanuel Stephen. With his addition, Arizona now boasts the 4th ranked recruiting class in the nation. With Arizona potentially losing four starters, Sanon figures to play an integral role in Tommy Lloyd’s young core next season.
