On the eve of Arizona’s 2024-25 season, Adia Barnes and Co. have landed their first commit of the 2026 recruiting class. On Sunday, 2026 Spanish guard Somto Okafor announced via Instagram she has committed to Arizona.
The five-foot-nine guard hails from Segle XXI, the same club that sent Helena Pueyo, the program’s all-time steals leader, to Tucson back in 2019. Okafor, also plays for the Spanish national team, where she made her debut with the at the 2024 FIBA U16 Women’s EuroBasket. She helped lead Spain to a third-place finish, and earned all-tournament honors in Miskolic, Hungary in August.
Okafor averaged 11.9 points (team-high), 5.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists over the summer. She also averaged 1.1 steals and 0.6 blocks, while shooting 43.2 percent from the field. Okafor also finished with a team-high 20.7 +/- in 24.0 minutes per game.
Okafor, whose full name is Somtochukwu Blessed-Okafor Ofoegbu, is of Spanish and Nigerian nationality according to the official FIBA website. She joins a long list of international players to join Arizona, including 2024 freshmen Mailien Rolf from Germany and Katarina Knežević (Serbia). With Somto Okafor committed to Arizona, the Wildcats now have more players in their 2026 recruiting class than 2025.
