TUCSON – Becky Burke has officially been the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats for a week, and has been working around the clock to assemble a roster. Up unitl now, all of her portal acquisitions have been guards. That changed on Friday, when former Kansas forward Freddie Wallace announced via social media she is transferring to Arizona.

The 6-foot-2 forward and native of Lincoln, Nebraska is the tallest player the Wildcats have added in the portal. She transferred to Kansas a year ago, but did not appear in a game for the Jayhawks. Per her transfer portal announcement, she medically redshirted her junior season after dealing with undisclosed “health issues.” She will have two years of eligibility remaining upon her arrival in Tucson.

Wallace began her collegiate career at Butler Community College, located in El Dorado, Kansas. During her two seasons as a Grizzly, Wallace started in 63 of her 64 career games, shooting 45.6 percent from the field, averaging 17.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. She is the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,138 career-points. She also garnered All-American honors in both seasons at Butler CC.

Freddie Wallace is the fifth player transferring to Arizona since Becky Burke’s arrival. She joins Lani Cornfield (Buffalo), Mickayla Perdue (Cleveland State), Tanyuel Welch (Memphis), and Kamryn Kitchen (Virginia). She is now the second forward on the roster, alongside the Wildcats’ lone returner, Montaya Dew.
