Arizona has had a relatively quiet spring transfer portal, but with the deadline to enter approaching, a few players have elected to explore their options. On Tuesday, three players, defensive linemen Isaiah Johnson and Sterling Lane II, as well as defensive back Elijah Brown, entered the transfer portal.
Isaiah Johnson appeared in 12 games during his career at Arizona, including 10 last season. The 6-foot-1, 311-pound interior defender recorded nine total tackles, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss, two of which were sacks. The redshirt junior will have two years of eligibility remaining after redshirting in 2022.
Sterling Lane appeared in 20 games during three seasons in Tucson. Last season, Lane played in all 12 games, where he tallied 25 total tackles, including one tackle-for-loss, as well as a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown against TCU.
Johnson and Lane were both members of Arizona’s 2022 standout recruiting class, which featured Noah Fifita and Tetairoa McMillan. The third is Elijah Brown, who transferred to Arizona from JUCO El Camino College in December.
Arizona now has seven players that have entered the transfer portal following the decisions from Isaiah Johnson, Sterling Lane, and Elijah Brown. Other players including quarterback Cole Tannenbaum, wide receiver Sam Graci-Glazer, Australian punter Lachlan Bruce, and kicker and TikTok influencer Cash Peterman. Long snapper Trey Naughton announced on Tuesday that he is medically retiring from football after suffering a back injury last season.
On Saturday, offensive coordinator Seth Doege highlighted that Arizona is looking to add more depth at offensive lineman, following Georgia Tech transfer Jordan Brown’s injury, and tight end. Defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales said he would not mind adding more depth, particularly along the defensive line.
