Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita is spending his birthday, July 28, gearing up for Fall Camp and the start of the 2025 season. And while Fifita would surely say the only thing he wants for his birthday is a Big 12 Championship or more for Arizona, the Wildcats’ signal caller did receive a nice gift in the mean time. On Monday, Noah Fifita was named to the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List.
The Maxwell Award is one of the most prestigious honors in college football, “presented annually to the most outstanding player in the sport, recognizing excellence on the field and exceptional contributions to the game.” First awarded in 1937, the Maxwell Award bears the name of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, a sportswriter and influential figure in college football whose passion and insightful commentary the public’s appreciation of college football.
It marks the second time in as many years that Noah Fifita has earned a spot on the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List, after picking up honors ahead of the 2024 season as a redshirt sophomore. After a breakout 2023 season, the former Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year will look to get back on track under new offensive coordinator Seth Doege following a lackluster 2024 season.
The Maxwell Football Club will announce semifinalists on November 11, 2025, before unveiling the three finalists on November 25, 2025, and announcing the winner during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 11, 2025. The formal presentation of the Maxwell Award will take place on Friday March 13, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Arizona Football’s Fall Camp begins on Wednesday, July 30, exactly one month before the season opener against Hawaii on August 30. The game kicks off at 7:30 PM MST on TNT and HBO MAX.
