Wildcats’ quarterback Noah Fifita is climbing his way through the program record books during his third season under center. That effort is being recognized nationally with the signal caller’s first midseason award watch list of the year. On Thursday, Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita was added to the Manning Award Watch List.
The Manning Award, presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, recognizes the top quarterback in college football nationally. The Manning Award, now in its 21st year, honors the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that takes into consideration the candidates’ bowl and playoff performances in its balloting.
Fifita is one of 22 quarterbacks, as well as one of three Big 12 signal callers including BYU’s Bear Bachmeier and Kansas’ Jalon Daniels, named to the midseason watch list.
Through seven games this season, Fifita has thrown for 1,829 yards, third-most in the Big 12, and 17 touchdowns, tacking on three more scores on the ground. Fifita has two five-touchdown games this season, one of which resulted in Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors. He also tied the program’s single-game completion record in his latest outing against Houston, completing 24-of-26 passes.
Fifita currently ranks third all-time in both passing touchdowns (61) and passing yards (7,784), behind Nick Foles and Willie Tuitama.
The Wildcats are idle this week, enjoying their second bye-week of the season. Following the break, Arizona returns to action at Colorado on Saturday, November 1.
