Arizona had tremendous success fishing in the FCS transfer portal waters a year ago. And as the old saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. On Saturday, the Arizona Wildcats landed a commitment from Northern Colorado safety Cam Chapa.

The 6-foot-1 Chapa has been a standout in his two seasons in Greeley, Colorado. As a freshman, Chapa appeared in 12 games, leading the Bears with 83 tackles. He also recorded four interception and four pass deflections, earning FCS Freshman All-American honors in 2024. Chapa followed up his freshman campaign with another stellar season for the Bears in 2025. He started 11 games, finishing with 88 tackles, including a team-high 63 solo tackles. Chapa had three games with 10 or more tackles, including an 11-tackle performance against FCS national champion Montana State. He also recorded two TFLs, four more interceptions, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and four pass breakups, earning First-Team All-Big Sky and FCS Football Central Second-Team All-American honors.

Chapa will have two years of eligibility remaining as the Wildcats look to rebuild their secondary that no longer features Treydan Stukes, Dalton Johnson, and Genesis Smith.

Arizona has been active bolstering the defensive side of the ball, adding five players include Cam Chapa. He is the third new member of the Wildcats’ secondary, joining former Wyoming cornerback Tyrese Boss and Nebraska safety transfer Malcom Hartzog Jr.
