Brent Brennan’s first coaching hire is for a position he’s rather familiar with, having played it in college and coached it at just about every step of the way.

Brandon Marcello of 247Sports is reporting that former Arizona wide receiver Bobby Wade is set to join Brent Brennan’s staff as the wide receivers coach.

After spending the last two seasons at Arizona State as a senior offensive analyst, Wade is set to return to Tucson, where he played for the Wildcats from 1999-2002 and set numerous program records.

Wade, who hauled in 230 receptions for 3,351 yards and 23 touchdowns, is Arizona’s all-time receiving yards leader, and holds the single-season receptions record (93). Wade is also third in single-season receiving yards (1,389), behind Dennis Northcutt (1,422) and current Wildcat Tetairoa McMillan (1,402), who surpassed Wade during Arizona’s 38-24 win over Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl last month. He was inducted into the Arizona Ring of Honor back in 2015.

Wade was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He spent seven years in the league, and had stints with five different NFL squads. Between the end of his pro-career, and joining ASU as a graduate assistant in 2019, Wade entered the coaching sphere, where he coached youth and high school football in Phoenix.

This will not be the first time that Wade and Brennan have work together. Wade was a redshirt-sophomore during Brennan’s lone season in Tucson as a graduate assistant in 2000.
