Brent Brennan’s offensive staff at Arizona is starting to take shape. Following the hiring of wide receivers coach Bobby Wade, and the return of a majority of Arizona’s roster, including stars Noah Fifita and Tetairoa McMillan, Jason Scheer of 247Sports is reporting that San Jose State offensive line coach Josh Oglesby is set join Arizona in the same position. Troy Hutchinson of GOAZCATS later confirmed the news.

Oglseby spent the last four seasons at San Jose State, after being named the Spartans’ offensive line coach back in March of 2020. Last season, San Jose State’s offensive line allowed just 20 sacks for 132 yards. For perspective, reigning National Champion Michigan also allowed 20 sacks for 155 yards this past season.

Josh Oglesby comes to Arizona with a breadth of experience, as both a player and as a coach. He played his college ball at Wisconsin from 2008-2011, where he helped anchor a Badgers’ offensive line that made it to back-to-back Rose Bowls in 2010 and 2011. Oglesby was also a first-team All-Big 10 selection during his senior season in Madison.

After a year in the NFL with Washington (2012), Oglebsy spent two season (2013, 2014) at Wisconsin as a graduate assistant. He then spent three seasons (2015-2017) at Oregon State as a quality control assistant working with the offensive line, where he likely met Brent Brennan, before joining the University of Texas El Paso as a quality control staff assistant (2018). Oglesby was also tight ends coach for the Alliance of American Football’s San Antonio Commanders (2019), and a season as the assistant offensive line coach of the XFL’s Seattle Dragons (2019).

Last season, Oglesby was nominated for the Broyles Award, honoring the top assistant coach in college football. Former Arizona defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen, was also a nominee. Oglesby will have three starters from Arizona’s 2023 offensive line to work with when he arrives in Tucson, with center Josh Baker, left guard Wendell Moe, and right tackle Jonah Savaiinaea all set to return.
