Despite an extreme heat warning in place, the Wildcats took the field for their 14th day of practice, continuing to focus on situational football with specifically designed plays and concepts. Both sides impressed, but it was the wide receiver room that once again took the cake for the top group on the field. Here are some of the notable observations and takeaways from Arizona fall training camp action on Saturday, August 22 at the Davis Sports Center & Tomey Practice Fields.
Offense:
- Tre Spivey made the catch of the day, and frankly, his best catch of fall camp, high-pointing a pass from Noah Fifita in the corner of the end zone as he “Mossed” second-year cornerback Swayde Griffin.
- Noah Fifita found Illinois transfer tight end Cole Rusk over the middle for a touchdown during a 7-on-7 red zone period.
- Isaiah Mizell responded with a touchdown after Wyoming cornerback transfer Tyrese Boss broke up the first attempt.
- Later in the practice, Mizell hauled in a second touchdown from quarterback Sawyer Anderson, showing off his break-away speed.
- RJ Mosely continues to have an impressive camp. Mosley hauled in a touchdown pass from Luke Haugo through a pass interference call.
Defense:
- Quinn Olson, Gavin Hunter, and Nebraska transfer Malcolm Hartzog Jr. continue to establish themselves as the top three options at safety.
- USC safety transfer Matai Tagao’i had a pass breakup on an over-the-middle pass from Fifita to Rusk.
- Before the response from Mizell, Wyoming cornerback transfer Tyrese Boss perfectly timed up a pass breakup in the front corner of the end zone on a pass from Sawyer Anderson.
Special Teams:
- Kicker Michael Salgado-Medina went 2-for-3 on field goal attempts during the final team period. After missing a 47-yard field goal, his first of fall camp, Salgado-Medina responded with a pair of 50-yard field goals.
