Another day, another honor for T-Mac following his record breaking performance on Saturday. On Tuesday, Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan was named Associated Press (AP) National Player of the Week.
In Saturday’s 61-39 victory over the New Mexico Lobos, McMillan set the Arizona single-game receiving record with 304 yards on 10 catches, and tied the single-game scoring record with four touchdowns. Jeremy McDaniel previously held the single-game receiving record with his 283 yards performance Cal in 1996, while Jacob Cowing set the single-game touchdown record last season against USC. McMillan was also a mere 11 yards short of breaking the Big 12 single-game receiving record, set by Baylor’s Terrance Williams back in 2012.
“I mean, shoot, that’s just a blessing. It’s crazy to think that was my first game back, and just being able to do what I did, just [a] huge testament to all my teammates and my coaches, just putting me in the right position to succeed,” said Tetairoa McMillan after earning AP Player of the Week honors. “Shoot, you know, that’s only the beginning, hopefully there’s a – we’ve got a lot more games to play, and shoot, we’re just trying to show the world what we can do.”
Off the heels of his record performance, T-Mac also took home Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, making him the first Wildcat in program history to do so.
The AP first-team preseason All-American is the first player with a 300-yard receiving game since Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba hauled in 347 yards against Utah in the 2022 Rose Bowl. According to OptaSTATS, McMillan is also the first player in FBS history to have a game with 10-plus receptions, over 300 receiving yards, average 30.0 or more yards per reception, and four or more receiving touchdowns.
