With 25 percent of the Big 12’s teams residing in Texas, the Lone Star state continues to be a focal point of the Wildcats’ recruiting this offseason. Over the weekend, the UA added another player to its transfer portal class, bringing the total up to 25. On Saturday, former Texas State linebacker Max Harris committed to the Arizona Wildcats, he announced via social media.
The 6-foot-0, 232-pound Harris is a native of Montgomery, Alabama. Harris began his career at Incarnate Word and Louisiana Monroe, but spent the last year in San Marcos. As a Bobcat, Harris appeared in 12 games this season, racking up 44 tackles, 0.5 sack, and a forced fumble. That lone 0.5 sacks came against now-rival Arizona State. He will have one season of eligibility remaining.
Harris, unranked coming out of high school, began his career at FCS powerhouse Incarnate Word in 2022. He appeared in nine games, tallying 26 tackles, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss, helping the Cardinals advance to the FCS playoff semifinals.
In 2023, Harris transferred to Louisiana Monroe, where he started 11 out of 12 games. As a Warhawk, Harris finished with 79 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, and two pass breakups. He had three games with 10+ tackles, and his 79 tackles were good for second-most on the team.
Including Max Harris, Arizona now has 10 players committed from the transfer portal on the defensive side of the ball. He is also the third linebacker addition for the Wildcats, joining FCS All-American Blake Gotcher (Northwestern State) and Riley Wilson (Montana).
