After a 19-season career, former Arizona Wildcat and NBA legend Andre Iguodala has announced his retirement.
Iguodala, the four-time NBA champion and 2015 NBA Finals MVP, was the last Lute Olson-coached Wildcat in the NBA.
He told Andscape via a phone interview earlier today, “It’s just the right time.”
Before his illustrious NBA career, Iguodala made a name for himself in Tucson. Following the 2002-03 season, he was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team, where he averaged 6.6 points and 4.7 rebounds.
During his sophomore season (2003-04), Iggy put the nation on notice, when he averaged 12.9 points and 8.4 rebounds through 30 games, and was named to First-Team All-Pac-10.
Following his sophomore season, Iguodala declared for the NBA Draft and was selected ninth-overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. He spent eight seasons in Philly, and was named an All-Star in 2012, his final season with the 76ers.
After one season with the Denver Nuggets in 2012-13, Andre Iguodala joined the Golden State Warriors. During his first stint with Golden State from 2013-2019, Iguodala helped lead the Warriors to five NBA Finals appearances and three NBA Championships, where he was also named Finals MVP in 2015.
Andre Iguodala went on to play for the Miami Heat from 2019-2021, before returning to Golden State for the 2021-22 season. That season resulted in Iguodala’s fourth NBA championship. He went on to play one more season with the Warriors, though he was limited by injury for most of the year.
Iggy was recently back in Tucson for Arizona’s annual scrimmage, the Red-Blue Showcase, where he was a judge in the dunk contest.
