The Wildcats have seen several players enter the portal over the last week, but none was more of a Tucson fan-favorite than the latest entry. On Wednesday, point guard Conrad Martinez entered the transfer portal. The news was first reported by Jason Scheer of WildcatAuthority.

The 6-foot floor general originally hails from Granollers, Spain, and spent the last two seasons in Tucson with Arizona. While Martinez averaged just 4.4 minutes per game during his two years with the Wildcats, he was a fan favorite, often drawing large cheers and reactions on social media when he checked into games. In 22 games this past season, he averaged 1.6 points, 0.3 rebounds, 1.0 assist, and shot 66.7 percent and 50.0 percent from 3-point range.

“El Jefecito”, or the little boss, as Tommy Lloyd liked to call Martinez, finished with a career-high nine points and five assists in 19 minutes against Central Michigan, and more recently had a combined five points and two steals in the Big 12 Tournament Semifinal against Texas Tech and Sweet Sixteen in Duke.

Arizona did not have a consistent backup point guard option behind Jaden Bradley, who averaged 34.1 minutes per game this season. With Conrad Martinez entering the transfer portal, it signals that the Wildcats are looking for a new option behind Bradley heading into the 2025-26 season who can facilitate the offense, providing some scoring off the bench, and limit turnovers.

Conrad Martinez is the fourth scholarship Arizona player to enter the transfer portal, joining KJ Lewis, Emmanuel Stephen, and Henri Veesaar.
