Brent Brennan preached consistency and alignment during the 2025 season on the way to a 5-game turnaround from his first to his second year in Tucson. That consistency and alignment will now be on lock through the 2030 season. On Friday, Arizona announced an extension for head football coach Brent Brennan, as well as extensions for offensive coordinator Seth Doege and defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales through 2028.
Per the term sheet released by the UA, Brennan’s two-year extension elevates his annual salary from $3.5 million per season to $4.7 million per season. After being the lowest paid coach in the Big 12 in 2025, his new contract ranks in the top half of the league, per USA Today.
Additionally, if the Wildcats win at least eight games during the regular season, Brennan will receive a $200,000 salary increase for each remaining year on the contract.
In addition to the extensions for Brennan, Doege, and Gonzales, the new deal also includes an increase to the assistant coach salary pool, from $4.25 million to $6 million. Per a release from the Athletics department, that ranks Arizona third in the Big 12 for assistant pay.
After finishing with a 4-8 record in Brent Brennan’s first season, the Wildcats are coming off a 9-4 campaign, just the eighth time in program history they have won nine or more games. The UA tied for fourth place in the Big 12, reached as high as No. 17 in the College Football Playoff rankings, and faced SMU in the Holiday Bowl.
Doege and Gonzales’ extensions come following massive overhauls on both sides of the ball. Under the former Texas Tech quarterback and Marshall OC, Arizona’s offense averaged over 400 yards and 31.5 points per game, nearly a 10 point improvement from the 2024 season. Quarterback Noah Fifita, who will return to Tucson for his senior season in 2026, set the single-season and program passing touchdown record with 29 scores through the air this season.
On the other side of the ball, Danny Gonzales’ crew boasted one of the nation’s top defense this season. The Wildcats allowed just 19.3 points per game, finishing in the Top 20 nationally in total defense (19th), passing defense (7th), interceptions and turnover margin (2nd). The UA also led the nation in team passing efficiency defense, holding opposing quarterbacks to a 97.20 rating.
