If there’s something the University of Arizona community is known for outside of its prowess on the basketball court and softball field, it’s its commitment to cutting edge research in space. The university is celebrating its world-renowned space research program through “Galaxy Slam,” a week-long series of events and activities on campus and in the Tucson community between February 14-21. As part of the week long event, Arizona Men’s Basketball will be debuting a special “Galaxy Slam” themed uniform for the BYU game on February 18.

The base of the uniform features Arizona’s classic navy color, with red and blue trim along the jersey and shorts. It also includes an interstellar theme, with stars donning the Arizona letters across the chest, as well as the sides of the jersey and shorts. The logo on the waistband of the shorts also includes an Arizona logo that resembles a solar system and planets.

The Wildcats announced the alternative uniforms in a promo video narrated by Senator Mark Kelly, a former NASA astronaut and Tucson local.

Under head coach Tommy Lloyd, the UA has generally stayed true to its classic home and away uniforms, which give a nod to uniforms worn by the Wildcats in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Arizona has worn an all red uniform on select occasion under Lloyd.
