The Big 12 Women’s Basketball Tournament bracket is officially set. When the Wildcats take the court on Wednesday in Kansas City, it will be against a familiar foe they have faced twice already this season. Arizona women’s basketball is the 15-seed and will face 10-seed ASU in the first round of the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Tournament at the T-Mobile Center.
In the battle of first-year head coaches, Becky Burke and the Wildcats (12-17, 3-15) fell to Molly Miller’s Sun Devils (22-9, 9-9) in both regular season matchups. Arizona fell 68-61 in Tempe in late January, before suffering a 75-69 overtime loss in Tucson in mid-February. Both games had historic turnouts, with the game in Tempe setting a women’s all-time Territorial Cup attendance record at Desert Financial Arena (6,121), and a season-high crowd in Tucson on Valentine’s Day (8,766).
Arizona’s season is likely over following the trip to Kansas City, but a win over the Sun Devils could spoil ASU’s chances of making the NCAA Tournament. ESPN’s Charlie Creme has ASU in the First Four Out in his latest Bracketology projections.
The game tips off on Wednesday, March 4, at 4:30 PM MST on ESPN+. The winner will face 7-seed Iowa State in the Second Round on Thursday. That game also tips at 4:30 PM MST on ESPN+.
