Arizona women’s basketball’s roster is going to be largely unrecognizable next season as Adia Barnes and Co. embark on a full-blown rebuild heading into the 2025-26 season. The latest development in that rebuild came on Tuesday, when freshman guard Lauryn Swann announced she is entering the transfer portal, via her social media.
The 5-foot-7 native of Queens, NY was a dynamic scorer off the bench during her lone season in Tucson. She appeared in 31 games for the Wildcats this season, including five starts, averaging 20.1 minutes per game. She averaged 8.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 0.6 steals, while shooting 39.5 percent from the field. Swann also carved out a role as a knock-down 3-point threat, shooting 39.1 percent from beyond the arc.
She scored in double-figures in 12 games this season, including a career-high 22 points on six-made three-pointers (also a career-high) against Utah, and 18 points in the regular season finale at ASU.
The former four-star prospect was named to the 2025 Big 12 All-Freshman Team, Arizona’s lone all-conference selection. She was also a two-time Big 12 Freshman of the Week, and took home Big 12 All State Bench Performance of the Week honors in January.
The Wildcats will now be without five of their top six scorers from last season heading into next year, as Lauryn Swann joins Jada Williams, Breya Cunningham, and Skylar Jones in the transfer portal, and Isis Beh exhausting her eligibility. Katarina Knezevic, Jorynn Ross, and Ajae Yoakum are also in the portal.
Arizona’s 2025 recruiting class currently features guards Roxy White from Illinois and Jasmine “Jazzy” Gipson from Texas.
I’m just curious being that Coach Barnes was a dynamic baskball player why she does not recruit these type of players. For one Breya was not nor was Skylar. Jada and Lauren were and yet they left. Coach Barnes has not explained this to us fans. Is it her coaching style or really the money. I wish she would make a statement and ease our anxiety for next year. Go Cats!!
