While the transfer portal does not officially open for another week, several Arizona Wildcats have already announced their intention to look for a new home this offseason. On Tuesday, Arizona wide receiver AJ Jones and running back Rayshon “Speedy” Luke announced via social media their plans to transfer.

During three seasons in Tucson, AJ Jones appeared in 18 games for the Wildcats. His most productive season came in 2023, when he hauled in five passes for 27 yards in 10 games. Prior to the announcement, the 6-foot-4, 211-pound receiver was seen as a potential option to help replace Arizona’s all-time receiving yards leader, Tetairoa McMillan, who is expected to leave for the NFL Draft. The former three-star recruit and redshirt sophomore will have two years of eligibility remaining.

The top name to enter the portal so far for the Wildcats is running back Rayshon “Speedy” Luke. Luke, a former four-star recruit, is one of the fastest, if not the fastest, player on Arizona’s roster. Through three seasons in Tucson, he flashed that speed in 24 games, including 13 in 2023, rushing for 153 yards and a touchdown, as well as 95 more receiving yards.

Even with his talent, Luke was never able to carve out a role in the offense, electing to redshirt after the first four games of the 2024 season, preserving two more years of eligibility for his next stop. Prior to opting out, “Speedy” carried the ball four times for 13 yards, and hauled in six catches for 52 yards.

AJ Jones and Rayshon “Speedy” Luke join backup quarterback Brayden Dorman, tight end Dorian Thomas, and defensive lineman Bryce Echols in announcing their intentions to enter the transfer portal. More announcements are sure to follow in the coming days and weeks.
