After going 2-0 last week, including a win over No. 13 Texas Tech, the Arizona Wildcats’ picked up right where they left off to start the week. Following a impressive week on the court, Tobe Awaka was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Awaka was a dominant force inside for the Wildcats both on the road and at home. In the win over BYU, he scored 14 points, tallied nine rebounds, an assist, and a block in 19 minutes. He followed it up with a 14-point, 11-rebound performance in 21 minutes against the Red Raiders. He also recorded an assist and two blocks in Saturday’s game.

Awaka averaged a double-double in the Wildcats’ two games last week, averaging 14 points and 10 points, while shooting a combined 12-18, or 66.7 percent, from the field.

He is the second Arizona player to win a Big 12 weekly conference award in as many weeks, after Caleb Love earned Big 12 Player of the Week last week. Tobe Awaka is also the first player in program history to earn a Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award.

The Wildcats head to Manhattan, Kansas for a test against a red hot Kansas State team on Tuesday at 6:00 PM MST on ESPN+, before returning home to host No. 6 Houston on Saturday at 12:00 PM MST on ESPN.
