With five starters from the 2025 season moving on, the Wildcats continue to be aggressive rebuilding their secondary. On Sunday, Danny Gonzales squad got another critical piece from the American. Charlotte defensive back Dwight Bootle II has committed to the Arizona Wildcats.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound defensive back is a native of Miami, Florida who had a productive season for the 49ers. He appeared in 12 games, finishing with 38 tackles, a fumble recovery, and a blocked kick during his lone season in Charlotte. His best game came one the road at USF, where he finished with seven tackles and the blocked kick. He had three games with five or more tackles, including a five-tackle performance at Georgia in the penultimate game of the season.
Prior to that, Bootle II began his career at Nebraska. He redshirted as a freshman in 2023 after suffering a season-ending injury, but was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2024, when he appeared in three games. Since he appeared in less than four games, with his freshman season cut short due to injury, Bootle II will have at least one year of eligibility remaining in Tucson, though it could be two. He chose the Wildcats over offers from Auburn and Memphis.
With Michael Dansby and Ayden Garnes exhausting their eligibility and Marquis Groves-Killebrew entering the transfer portal, Dwight Bootle II will be a critical piece at cornerback for Arizona next fall. The Wildcats will also have Jay’Vion Cole back, as well as newcomers Tyrese Boss from Wyoming and Brandon Holmes from JUCO Fresno City College. Arizona has now added six players on defense via the transfer portal.
