With less than a month until Arizona’s season opener against New Mexico, the Wildcats are continuing to add depth to the offensive line in efforts to protect one of their most valuable assets this season: Noah Fifita. On Saturday, the program announced that former Nevada offensive lineman Joey Capra is transferring to Arizona.
The commitment comes two weeks after it was announced that Raymond Pulido, who was expected to take over at left tackle, will be sidelined for the 2024 season for undisclosed reasons.
Capra, a redshirt senior, appeared in all 12 games for Nevada last season, making eight starts. He also appeared in special teams for the Wolfpack last season, logging a tackle against Texas State on September 23. Capra also appeared in all 12 games during his redshirt junior campaign. He started five games for Nevada in 2022, including at Iowa and San Jose State. Prior to Nevada, Capra spent his first two years at San Diego State.
The 6-foot-4 offensive lineman held offers from 25 programs coming out of high school back in 2019, including San Jose State, where Brent Brennan was the head coach. The former three-star prospect also hails from Auburn, California, in the Northern part of the state Brennan and his staff know well.
With Joey Capra transferring to Arizona, he joins an offensive line room that returns three starters in left guard Wendell Moe Jr., center Josh Baker, and right tackle Jonah Savaiinaea. The Wildcats returned to fall camp on July 30, ahead of their season opener against New Mexico on August 31.
