One of Arizona’s biggest weaknesses in terms of depth last season was offensive line. That weakness has been a top priority for the Wildcats this offseason in the transfer portal. On Wednesday, former Oregon State offensive lineman and Tucson native Flavio Gonzalez committed to Arizona, he announced via social media.
The 6-foot-five, 275-pound Gonzalez played his prep ball at Pueblo High School for then-head coach Brandon Sanders, who was a member of Arizona’s Desert Swarm defense and now serves as the UA’s Coordinator of Football Alumni and High School Relations. Gonzalez spent the last three seasons in Corvallis, appearing in 20 games during that time. This season, he played in all 12 games for the Beavers, logging 740 snaps on offense and finishing with a 67.5 overall grade from Pro Football Focus. He allowed just two sacks on the year, and was penalized just twice.
Prior to his time at Oregon State, Gonzalez made two stops at the junior college level. He began his career at Southwestern Community College in Chula Vista, California, seeing time at left tackle and guard. He then transferred to Butler Community College in El Dorado Kansas, where he earned Second-Team All-KJCCC honors on the offensive line after the 2021 season.
With Flavio Gonzalez committed to his hometown Arizona Wildcats, Josh Oglesby and Brent Brennan have now added five offensive linemen through the transfer portal, including Ty Buchanan (Texas Tech), Jordan Brown (Georgia Tech), Tristan Bounds (Michigan), and Ka’ena Decambra (Hawaii). He is also the 20th-overall addition via the portal for the Wildcats this offseason.
