Heading into the 2026 season, right guard Alexander Doost is the only starting offensive lineman currently returning to Tucson. With the other four linemen out of eligibility, Arizona is making sure it restocks with plenty of size and strength to protect Noah Fifita for his senior season. In doing so, Arizona has landed a commitment from former BYU offensive lineman Jake Griffin.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman is a native of the Valley, growing up in Mesa, Arizona where he attended Red Mountain High School. Griffin signed with the Cougars in 2020, but served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Durban, South Africa. As a redshirt sophomore in 2025, he appeared in 10 games for the Cougars, mostly on special teams as part of the field goal and extra point unit. With Matthew Lado and Rhino Tapa’atoutai returning, plus the addition of San Jose State transfer Nate Hale, it’s more likely Griffin will compete for an interior spot on the line.
He will have two years of eligibility remaining in Tucson. Griffin is also the older brother of freshman offensive lineman Jaxon Griffin, who just completed his first season with the Wildcats. The Griffins are now the third pair of brothers on the roster, joining Noah and Dash Fifita, as well as Tre and Kingston Spivey.
Jake Griffin is the third offensive lineman Arizona has added via the transfer portal, alongside Hale and Zach Henning from Washington. The Wildcats will need to add at least one or two more offensive linemen in the portal in order to ensure there is plenty of depth in the trenches throughout the season.
