Whoever said there’s no such thing as too many offensive linemen was right. Or at least Josh Oglesby and Brent Brennan think so. On Friday, Arizona landed a commitment from former Portland State offensive lineman Isaac Perez.
The 6-foot-3, 325-pound Corona, California native prep at Centennial High School, the same school that produced freshman standout Carter Bryant on the men’s basketball team. 247Sports.com rated Perez as the No. 163 interior offensive lineman and 247th-best prospect from California in the class of 2023. His lone offer out of his school was from the Vikings.
At Portland State, Perez appeared in 20 games during two seasons. As a freshman, he was forced to step up early due to injuries on the offensive line. He appeared in nine games and took over at left guard, starting the final five games of the season. This year, Perez appeared in 11 games for the Vikings, starting the last nine of the season at center.
With three-year starter and offensive captain Josh Baker out of eligibility, Perez is expected to compete for the starting center job. He will have two years of eligibility, plus his redshirt, remaining.
Isaac Perez is the second former Portland State Viking to transfer to Arizona in as many days, after running back Quincy Craig pledged his commitment to Arizona on Thursday. He is also the sixth offensive lineman the Wildcats have added through the transfer portal, joining Ty Buchanan (Texas Tech), Jordan Brown (Georgia Tech), Tristan Bounds (Michigan), Ka’ena Decambra (Hawaii), and Flavio Gonzalez (Oregon State).
