Arizona’s first signing out of the transfer portal was a player expected to make an instant impact on special teams. Now the Wildcats latest pickup is another player with similar expectations. On Monday, Arizona landed a commitment from former Washington State punter and kickoff specialist Ryan Harris.
The 6-foot-0, 207-pound Harris is native of Vancouver, British Columbia and comes to Tucson after two seasons on the Palouse. As a senior in 2025, he appeared in all 13 games, punting 52 times for 2,116 yards and averaging 40.7 yards per boot. He had 15 punts inside the 20-yard line and nine punts of 50 or more yards, including a 60-yard punt against San Diego State. Harris also kicked off 65 times with 40 touchbacks.
He began his collegiate career at San Diego Mesa College (JUCO) in 2023, where he averaged 38.9 yards-per-punt on 55 punts. Prior to that, Harris spent his freshman year as a full-time student as at Boise State in 2022. He has one year of eligibility remaining when he arrives in Tucson.
With punter Isaac Lovison and kickoff specialist Ian Wagner exhausting their eligibility, Harris replaces two critical special teams positions for the Wildcats. Kicker Michael Salgado-Medina will be back in Tucson for his third season at Arizona, but the addition of Harris takes pressure off of Salgado-Medina to serve as the Wildcats’ primary kicker and punter, after he struggled punting during the first three games of the 2025 season.
Ryan Harris is the second special teams player Arizona has added this portal cycle, along Arkansas State long snapper transfer Drew Nicolson. He is the 17th overall player the Wildcats have added via the transfer portal.
