Portalling season is officially underway, and the Arizona Wildcats’ roster is going to look very different next season as a result. On Tuesday, three Arizona players, Breya Cunningham, Skylar Jones, and Katarina Knezevic announced they entered the transfer portal via social media.
Breya Cunningham, a former McDonald’s All-American, and Skylar Jones, were part of Adia Barnes’ stellar 2023 recruiting class. Katarina Knezevic, a native of Belgrade, Serbia, is leaving the Wildcats after just one season in Tucson.
In two seasons at Arizona, Cunningham averaged 9.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks in 22.2 minutes per game. This season, Cunningham averaged 11.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, while shooting 56.0 percent from the floor, good for fifth-best in the Big 12. She also earned Big 12 All-Conference Honorable Mention this season.
One of the more athletic guards in recent program history, Skylar Jones averaged 8.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game during her two seasons in Tucson. She evolved into a lethal shooter for the Wildcats, shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from deep this season.
Katarina Knezevic played sparingly for most of the season, but the absence of Sahnya Jah opened up opportunities for more minutes starting in mid-February. The Serbian freshman averaged 2.8 points and 1.9 rebounds in 11.5 minutes this season for Arizona.
Breya Cunningham, Skylar Jones, and Katarina Knezevic join sophomore point guard and co-captain Jada Williams, who announced her intentions to enter the transfer portal on Monday. And while the Wildcats still have a promising backcourt of Lauryn Swann, Mailien Rolf, and Paulina Paris, the recent flurry of transfers leaves Adia Barnes’ future in Tucson that much more unclear, and begs the question, who could be the next domino to fall?
