As spring games continue to become few and far between, Brent Brennan and the Wildcats concluded their five-week long spring camp with an evening of football and fun for the City of Tucson. The second annual showcase had something for the whole family, featuring an hour-long scrimmage with drills interspersed, on-field concessions including a beer garden, autograph signings and photos with the Territorial Cup, and a concert by Polynesian artist Spawnbreezie. Here were some of the notable stories and takeaways from the Arizona Spring Showcase at Casino Del Sol Stadium on Saturday evening.
Scrimmage:
Saturday’s Spring Showcase was centered around an hour-long scrimmage that also included position group specific drills and breakouts throughout the evening. The scrimmage was bookended with 11-on-11 periods that featured quarterback Noah Fifita leading the Wildcats down the field on multiple occasion. Here’s a look at who took the field with the starting unit on both sides of the ball:
Starting Lineups:
Offense: Noah Fifita (QB), Giovanni Richardson (WR), Tre Spivey (WR), Chris Hunter (WR), Cole Rusk (TE), Antwan Roberts (RB), Matthew Lado (LT), Rhino Tapa’atoutai (LG), Zach Henning (C), Alexander Doost (RG), and Louis Akpa (RT).
Defense: Prince Williams (DL), Mays Pese (DL), Kaisi Lafitaga (DL), Dominic Lolesio (DL), Chase Kennedy (LB), Taye Brown (LB), Everett Roussaw Jr. (LB), Zuri Watson (CB), Tyrese Boss (CB), Quinn Olson (S), and Lee Molette III (S).
11-on-11:
During the 11-on-11 periods, Noah Fifita’s blossoming chemistry with rising sophomore wide receiver Giovanni Richardson was on full display. The dynamic pass catcher hauled in three touchdowns from Fifita, including a wide open catch in the left corner of the end zone, as well as a high-pointed touchdown grab in the opposite end. USC transfer Jordan Ross hauled in an impressive touchdown on his fingertips, while Illinois tight end transfer Cole Rusk continues to build a relationship with Fifita as a consistent and reliable target.
On the defensive end, the secondary showed flashes of last year’s “No Fly Zone.” Defensive back Johno Price picked off backup quarterback Sawyer Anderson that could have been returned for an interception had the team been playing full tackle. USC transfer Matai Tagoa’i, who has moved from linebacker to safety, came off the edge towards the end of the scrimmage, dropping Anderson for a sack.
Drills:
During the breakout periods for drills, the quarterbacks and skill players took the north end of the field, while the offensive line and entire defense took the south end. While the quarterbacks and receivers worked on timing and route running, offensive coordinator Seth Doege lined up as a defensive back trying to disrupt the pass catchers.
On the flip side, Danny Gonzales led the defense through some agility drills, including stacking blocking pads and having players jump over the pads without touching them. Mays Pese showed off his athleticism, putting his hops on full display as he cleared six stacked foam agility bags. Joe Salave’a also worked on some reflex drills with the defensive line, having the unit catch golf balls before working on their first step off the line of scrimmage.
Off the Field:
Outside of the scrimmage, there were plenty of activities for families to enjoy. The Spring Showcase began with a youth camp, allowing hundreds of kids to take the field, learn some basic football fundamentals, and connect with a number of players including tight end Tyler Powell, running back Quincy Craig, quarterback Oscar Rios, defensive back Malcolm Hartzog Jr., and more.
Fans enjoyed a merchandise stand and beer concessions, as well as a bounce house and several tables with giveaways from local Tucson service providers. Attendees also got autographs from a number of players and had the opportunity to take photos with the Territorial Cup. DUSK Music Festival provided musical entertainment throughout the evening, before Polynesian artist Spawnbreezie took the stage for a post-scrimmage concert.
Arizona now turns its attention to the summer, when the rest of its 2026 recruiting class arrives in Tucson. Students will condition and train between now and August, when the team returns for the start of fall camp.
