In the hours leading up to the 2024 WNBA Draft, Adia Barnes and Co. were busy securing another piece of their 2024 recruiting class. On Monday afternoon, former South Carolina forward Sahnya Jah committed to Arizona.

Out of high school, Sahnya Jah was the No. 40 overall prospect in ESPN’s 2023 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings. She was also a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention after averaging 10.6 points and 6.0 rebounds as a senior at Montverde Academy in Florida. She led Montverde to the 2023 GEICO High School National Championship, where she scored 20 points, including the game-clinching 3-point play.

The six-foot forward spent one season in Columbia under Dawn Staley. In 16 games, Jah averaged 3.1 points and 2.0 rebounds in 9.1 minutes per game while shooting 36.2 percent from the field. The freshman logged a career-high eight points against Clemson (11/16/2023) and career-highs in rebounds (seven) and assists (four) against Mississippi Valley (11/24/2023).

Jah’s time with the reigning National Champs did not the way she intended it to. She was suspended from the program on February 8 for conduct detrimental to the team, though head coach Dawn Staley said she could work her way back onto the team. She did not give more details regarding Jah’s suspension.

“It is unfortunate that her time with us was short, but we wish her the best in the next steps of her career,” Staley said in a statement quoted by the Associated Press.

She joins a young core chock-full of fellow 2023 recruits. Former five-stars Montaya Dew (early enrollee), Breya Cunningham, Jada Williams, as well as four-star Skylar Jones were all members of Arizona’s 2023 signing class.

Sahnya Jah is Adia Barnes’ second portal pickup of the offseason, joining former North Carolina guard Paulina Paris, who committed to Arizona on April 3.
