The worst thing that happens when you shoot for the moon is landing among the stars. That seems to be new offensive coordinator Seth Doege’s approach to recruiting, and his “astronautical” tactics may just be paying off. 2026 four-star quarterback Oscar Rios named Arizona in his Top 2 schools on Tuesday and has zeroed in on a commitment date.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound native of Downey, California named Arizona in his Top 7 back in late April along with Colorado, Kentucky, Oklahoma State, UCLA, Utah, and Virginia Tech. According to Hayes Fawcett of On3.com, Rios has narrowed his decision to the Arizona Wildcats and UCLA Bruins. His commitment date has been set for Friday, June 27.
Rios is the No. 21 player from the state of California, 12th-best QB, and No. 184 overall prospect in the class of 2026, per 247Sports.com composite ratings. A commitment from Rios would make him the 15th-highest rated recruit in program history and third-highest QB commit in program history behind John Rattay and Nic Costa.
A commitment from Rios also sets up Arizona’s quarterback room for years to come, regardless of whether this is Noah Fifita’s final year of college football. Arizona’s QB room also currently boasts Wisconsin transfer Braedyn Locke, and freshman Luke Haugo and Sawyer Anderson.
Regardless of whether Oscar Rios lands in Tucson, the fact that he has named Arizona in his Top 2 speaks volumes about the trajectory of the program in Year 2 under Brent Brennan, and as much, if not more, about the recruiter and play-caller that Seth Doege is, especially when you consider Arizona fans have yet to see the revamped offense under the lights.
