After securing a number of commits on the offensive side of the ball throughout the spring, the Arizona Wildcats are loading up the 2027 recruiting class with defensive talent now that official visit season underway. After landing a pair of defensive back commitments on Monday, the UA has added another defensive player to help bolster the attack at the line of scrimmage. On Tuesday, 2027 three-star defensive lineman Ahzan Bacote announced his commitment to Arizona.
The 6-foot-2, 260-pound defensive lineman is from San Antonio, Texas, where he preps at Cornerstone Christian High School. Bacote is a solid pickup for the Wildcats, checking in as the No. 114 player from the Lone Star State, 98th-best defensive lineman, and No. 855 overall rated prospect in the class of 2027, per 247Sports.com Composite Ratings. He held an impressive 30 offers during his recruitment, but ultimately chose Brent Brennan, Danny Gonzales, and the UA over ASU, Baylor, Iowa State, Mississippi State, and more, including Cincinnati, Houston, Miami, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, and Utah.
The coaching and recruiting staff once again prioritized adding another multi-sport athlete to the roster. In addition to finishing with 40 tackles, including 20 TFL and 12 sacks last season, Bacote also competes in wrestling (285-pound weight class) and throws shot put (41-10 in March 2026).
Ahzan Bacote is the third player from Texas to commit to Arizona following an official visit this week, joining safeties Jaylen Oliver and Luke Stevens. The Wildcats now have seven players committed in the 2027 recruiting class, with more expected to announce their decision in the coming days.
