Texas – more specifically the Houston area – continues to be a hot bed for Brent Brennan and Danny Gonzales as they build out the Wildcats’ 2027 recruiting staff. And within Houston, one school continues to be a red hot location for the UA. Following an official visit to Tucson, three-star linebacker Davon Smith has committed to Arizona.
The 5-foot-11, 220-pound linebacker currently preps at Spring Westfield High School, the same school that produced fellow 2027 commits Jaylen Oliver and Logan Draper, who took his official visit to the Old Pueblo with Smith. Per 247Sports.com Composite Ratings, he is the No. 146 rated player from the Lone Star State, 102nd-best linebacker, and No. 1,137 overall player in the class of 2027. Smith chose the Wildcats over Pittsburgh and Utah, but held offers from over 20 programs, including ASU, Colorado, Houston, LSU, and more.
His junior campaign in 2025 was productive, where he finished with 118 tackles, including 24 TFL and 2.5 sacks. Smith also recorded two forced fumbles and three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.
With the commitment from Davon Smith, Arizona continues to load up on defensive players. He joins Oliver and Draper, as well as San Antonio defensive lineman Ahzan Bacote and Dallas safety Luke Stevens. Between Smith, Oliver, Draper, and running back Wayne Shanks Jr., the Wildcats have now added four players from H-Town.
