And then there were three…players left on the roster. After a quiet week or so, the Wildcats’ roster activity has picked back for Becky Burke and her staff. On Tuesday, Arizona Women’s Basketball lost a pair of players, with Montaya Dew set to medically retire and Mireia “MJ” Jurado announcing her plans to enter the transfer portal.
Montaya Dew
Dew, the highest ranked recruit in program history, has battled medical issues throughout her career, at both the high school and collegiate level. The 2023 early enrollee was a member of the same recruiting class that featured Jada Williams, Breya Cunningham, and Skylar Jones, but appeared in just 29 games during her three-plus seasons in Tucson. Her lone healthy season came in 2024-25, where she averaged 2.5 points, three rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. She scored a career-high 11 points in the Wildcats’ win at Kansas in 2025.
Dew suffered a knee injury at home versus Texas Tech in February of 2025, forcing her to miss the remainder of the season, and all of the 2025-26 season under new head coach Becky Burke.
MJ Jurado
Jurado is the latest player that intends to enter the transfer portal following Burke’s inaugural season at the helm for the Wildcats. The 6-foot-0 Spaniard averaged 3.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 0.8 assists while shooting 48.2 percent from the field as a freshman. She appeared in all 30 games for Arizona this season, making 18 starts. Jurado finished in double figures in the non-conference wins over Northern Colorado, Cal State Bakersfield, and Bellarmine, but had her most complete game against ASU in Tempe, scoring five points on 2-5 shooting, including 1-3 from 3-point range, along with six rebounds and an assist.
She played for the prestigious Spanish club Segle XXI, which produced the Wildcats’ all-time steals leader Helena Pueyo. Given her size and wingspan at the guard position, as well as her experience playing for Spain, she figured to have a similar role to Pueyo during her time in Tucson had she stayed.
Jurado is now the sixth Arizona Women’s Basketball player that intends to enter the transfer portal, joining Tanyuel Welch, Adde Adebanjo, Daniah Trammell, Achol Magot, and Kamryn Kitchen. Seniors Noelani Cornfield, Nora Francois, and Mickayla Perdue have also all exhausted their eligibility, meaning Sumayah Sugapong, Molly Ladwig, and early enrollee Callie Hinder are the only players currently returning.
