Official visit season has now become flip season after the Wildcats secured their first flipped commitment of the 2027 class. And with the number of players the UA continues to add from the Lone Star State, the team may need to consider changing its name from the Arizona Wildcats may need to consider changing their name to the Texas Wildcats in 2027. Following an official visit, 2027 three-star linebacker Rome Ewell has flipped his commitment from Houston to Arizona.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker is from Springtown, Texas, located approximately an hour west of Dallas, where he attends Springtown High School. Per 247Sports.com Composite Ratings, Ewell is the 134th-best player in the state of Texas, No. 91 linebacker, and No. 1,030 overall recruit in the class of 2027. He committed to Big 12 rival Houston back on June 1 after taking an official visit to the Cougars in late May, before consequently flipping to the Wildcats after visiting a week later. During his recruitment, Ewell held offers from a number of programs, including Iowa State, ASU, Boston College, Kansas State, Louisville, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.

He was a tackling machine last season for the Fighting Porcupines, recording 148 tackles, including 13 TFL and four sacks, while also adding a fumble recovery.

With the commitment from Rome Ewell, Arizona continues load up on the defensive side of the ball. Ewell is the third defensive player to commit to the Wildcats this week and becomes the sixth defender the UA has added to its 2027 recruiting class. He joins defensive linemen Ahzan Bacote and Logan Draper, safeties Luke Stevens and Jaylen Oliver, and linebacker Davon Smith, who are all natives of Texas.
